The trees along the roadside touchline on the first team pitch having been topped some 10 years ago were in need of more attention. In the past two years 4 have been blown over in strong winds, luckily into our grounds and not into the road and school opposite, and it was felt to be prudent to have them inspected again.

Thankfully we did and it was decided that they should be taken down to just above street light height. Sadly, when the tree surgeons started work this week there was found to be a real problem with most of the trees. They were either hollow or rotten at the core or a combination of the two.

For safety reasons and to avoid a serious accident sometime in the future it was decided to fell the lot and start again with something else as a windbreak, albeit it will take some years to be effective. We now have a 'big sky' looking west from the pitches.
