A new section where we get a more in depth view into the players that make up the Old Dunstonian family. This week the 1st XV captain Peter Jefferys.

"you can’t beat the feeling of excitement and nervousness all at once"
- Peter Jefferys

I first started playing rugby at Beccehamians when I was 6 and shortly moved to join Bromley RFC the following season. I stayed at Bromley until I was 18, which during my time at Bromley RFC we managed to get to 6 consecutive county finals and the national final two years in a row. During this period I was fortunate enough to represent Kent from U15’s to U18’s, captaining the U16’s and U18’s.
At 16 years of age, I managed to reach my rugby highlight and get offered an academy professional contract with London Wasps which led to me representing them as both a junior and senior.
Although my professional rugby career never really took off I have been fortunate to play alongside and captain some tremendously talented players some of which are currently playing for England at the moment.

Best moment as captain
As the captain for Old Dunstonians for the past 2 season I have had 2 highlights that stick out;
1) All be it sidelined due to a first-half injury, one of my favourite moments wearing the blue and white was against Aylesford away. Aylesford were top of the table and unbeaten. With an injury hamstrung team every player dug deep, fronted up and got the win against all odds.

2) My second favourite moment is very simple. Running out with the boys on to the pitch on a Saturday before games. In my opinion, you can’t beat the feeling of excitement and nervousness all at once, knowing what’s ahead of you and basically going to battle with your mates alongside you.

Worst moment as captain
My worst moment as captain has to have been last week when we narrowly lost to Park House who are a local rival. Although Park House played the conditions extremely well and forced us to make uncharacteristic errors, I know the talent OD’s posses and it is incredibly frustrating when we don’t perform to our absolute best and lose games that we should be winning.

Goal for this season
Very simple, Top 4. This was the goal that we set ourselves at the beginning of the season and this is what we now expect from ourselves. Currently we are 3rd so it’s all on our shoulders to keep the wins and the bonus points flowing.
