The long wait is finanly over. The league season is now upon us. The squad have trained hard over the summer with plenty of pounds shed, extra weights lifted and are now ready for the arrival of Thanet Wanderers. There will be some disappointment from some within the squad that they haven't made the cut for the starting XV due to work commitments but those that step up now have the opportunity to show what they are made of.
There is a good scattering of new recruits, especially in the front row, with the arrival of Sam Perry and Connor Mitchell plus some Old Dunstonians in Ollie Gilbert and Pete Collings finally making their homage to the field of dreams. Regular watchers of the team last year will recognise the back line as being an almost constant every week with only, last years player of the season, Linval Antonio missing due to a head injury still hanging over him. Captain, for his second year, Peter Jefferys, will take the field with a strong team around him that should be able to turn over any side that they come up against in this league. It's an exciting time to be watching the Old Boys with big changes happening in the rebuild of the club.
Thanet Wanderers finished third in the league last year, only 5 points short of promotion and will surely be aiming for promotion again this season. Against the ODs they earned maximum points on both occasions. With the now fitter, stronger Old Boys side, they will look to overturn that trend and get the season started with a win.
KO is 3pm at Park Langley. If you have time come down and support the boys kick start their season and cheer them on over the whitewash.
