With the Blackheath Festival just a few weeks away on Saturday 8th October, the U8 squad have been working on their core skills.

Welcome back to training everyone. It's been lovely to see the familiar faces from last year's U7 squad and some new ones too. We've got an expanded U8 group this year: Charlie and Matthew give us an ideal training squad of 12, and with Darren and Elliot joining in with the coaching we are all set for a great season.
For the last two weeks we have been practicing our core skills: passing, catching, tagging, evading defenders and scoring tries.

In the next session we will build on the previous exercises by developing the skills in small sided games. Last year U7 tag was 4 vs 4, at U8 it's 6 vs 6 on a bigger pitch. Let's see how you can work together as a team: talk to each other as much as you can; find the space, keep going forward and score more tries. Diving over the line to score a try is allowed at U8, but remember to ground the ball! If you are defending, spread out and watch out for the gaps. If you can get 6 tags before the attackers score, then it's a turnover.

To recap the rules for U8 tag, read the Rules of Play and the current Age Grade Rugby rules on the England Rugby website.
Thanks very much Roshini for taking the photos. Full full size versions, look in the U8 section.
