Recruiting a Director of Rugby

Recruiting a Director of Rugby

Graham Condon28 Feb - 21:42

We are currently seeking a Director of Rugby to lead our vision to rebuild Senior rugby at the Old Dunstonians RFC

Role Description: Director of Rugby

About the role

The ideal Director of Rugby for Old Dunstonians is someone who thrives on challenge, development, and long term vision. With the club now competing in the Kent Met Leagues after experiencing a drop in player availability, we are entering a crucial rebuilding phase. Our priority is to re-establish a strong, committed 1st XV, then grow sustainably back into the league structure and ultimately rebuild a competitive 2nd XV.

This role suits either an experienced coach who has led rebuilds before, or an ambitious emerging coach looking for the opportunity to shape a club’s rugby future from the ground up.

They will be a leader who can inspire players, attract new talent, and put in place clear standards, structures, and processes that help the squad grow in numbers, quality, and cohesion. They communicate well, are organised, and understand how to motivate a group that may be rebuilding confidence as well as capability.

Most importantly, this person shares our vision: someone who believes in developing players, strengthening culture, and taking pride in helping a historic club rise again. They will bring energy, creativity, and resilience - with a genuine desire to build, not just maintain - and will see the challenge of rebuilding Old Dunstonians not as a barrier, but as an exciting project with huge potential.

Main Responsibilities

• Put in place simple, effective processes for developing and retaining players.
• Help attract new players and promote the club in a positive way.

• Establish a playing philosophy that suits the squad’s strengths and motivations.
• Create and maintain a fair and transparent approach to team selection.

3. Reporting & Planning
• Provide simple, regular updates to the Executive Committee on selection, game plans, coaching strategies, and player progression

What will you get from this role?
• The chance to lead the rebuild of Old Dunstonians’ senior rugby and shape the future direction of the club.
