....to complete a convincing victory against old rivals Park House on their first home outing of the league season.
The OD’s had been unable to capitalise on a dominant first period when plenty of possession and a driving forward performance could not be converted into points. Surging breaks from Rob Deane Rhys Bozier and Luke Jebb kept the pressure on and it took the visitors nearly half an hour to set foot in the Dunstonian half, but, ominously, they were able to kick a penalty to draw first blood. Eventually, some quick thinking by scrumhalf Tom Coombs allowed Jamal Gobir to score wide out and a neat dropped goal from fly half Mike Ubee saw the old boys rightfully take the lead. Rather than consolidate, the old boys seemed to lose concentration and allowed the Park House eight to start to boss the forward exchanges. Suddenly, the visitors limited game plan started to work, with powerful runs through the centre and an effective pick and drive at the breakdown. A sorry sequence of penalty infringements allowed Park House to get up the field and score a converted try just before half time to take a two point advantage into the second half.
With a similar pattern of play established after the break, the OD defence was tested but some heavy tackling from captain Jefferys and his mobile back row of James Oddy and replacement Lawrence Reeve managed to unsettle a tiring Park House pack while some excellent clearing kicks from the OD half backs began to turn the tide. Jefferys exploded through some weak tackling to initiate a stunning forward move that saw some delicious interpassing put Nick Gilbey under the posts. With Park House increasingly spilling the ball under intense OD pressure, the floodgates opened as Linval Antonio and Rory Palmer showed the opposition defence a clean pair of heels to move the old boys into a commanding lead. Once again, Dunstonians were in charge at scrum and lineout, with Jamie Pecorella and Tom McNamara at the forefront, to allow Coombs and Ubee to dictate where the game was played. Mike Ubee’s electric break down the right flank brought a great try from Luke Jebb to seal the match and make a late opposition score irrelevant.
