On a sticky pitch and with key inside backs Bryant Hall and Jeremy Scott on the sidelines, the old boys might have struggled against a larger Wells XV, but a dogged display from the front row plus the incisive try taking ability of Dallanana and Mackie saw the old boys into a descisive 15 nil advantage with no more than 10 minutes remaining.
When J P Mills added a third try hopes were high that the old boys might push on for the bonus point, but this proved not to be as Wells spent the last moments searching for some reward for their afternoons endeavours. This came to pass as their verteran prop forward lumbered over in the games last movement. Prior to that, some staunch OD’s tackling had kept the visitors at arms length. It will particularly please the coaching team that even when the old boys are not firing on all cyliders and when confronted by larger opponents they are still able to grind out wins.
The last competitive fixture of 2011 sees the old boys looking for revenge against a Charlton Park XV who beat the old boys early season and who have subsequently flourished in London 2 South. A decent crowd is expected for this key fixture - 2 15pm this Saturday at Park Langley.
