Despite missing key forwards Hawkins, Boyd and player of season so far Smart, the Old Boys forwards comfortably held Deal in the stronger aspects of the visitors game, competing well in the loose and at the set piece. Also missing was wing Ollie Evans though the return of Bryant Hall was a welcome sight after two months on the sidelines.
Establishing a 33 5 lead with a hat trick from Jayden Dallalana (one a classic from within his own half) and a brace from Josh Smith by the interval secured the win and the bonus point. Consequently, the second period degenerated into something of a shapeless mess. It was briefly enlivened by a final cameo appearance from outstanding kiwi scrum half Cody Mackie who signed off with a trademark score before heading back to NZ. I know everyone this season who's enjoyed his dynamic performances wishes him safe travels and hopes he wears the navy and white again one day. D & B to their credit took advantage of the old boys loss of intensity to draw the second half 5 all with a second try of their own.
Next week sees the Old Boys host Warlingham who beat us narrowly in November. A tough afternoon can be expected as it can for the remainder of the season as we approach the home straight. 3pm Park Langley.
