Old Dunstonian were narrowly defeated by Warlingham on Saturday as the Surrey visitors completed the double over the Old Boys.

Dunstonian utterly failed to turn up for the first thirty minutes of this fixture, by which time Warlingham had gleefully helped themselves to a 20 point lead. In a carbon copy of the visit to Warlingham in November, the old boys gave the visitors a decent lead before deigning to give chase. Like the return fixture they nearly got there, securing again both bonus points for 4 tries and a seven point or less margin of defeat. Exciting as watching the old boys play catch up rugby was in the second period, where they were as good as they had previously been bad (featuring excellent scores from Luke Smart, Tom Pelling and a brace from Ben Connolly) a side like Warlingham, adept in slowing the game down via their big forwards use of the pick and drive, is very unlikely to give back that sort of margin.

Dunstonian second half revival however was almost complete and if Josh Smith's conversion of Ben Connolly's second try (made by Jayden Dallalana's excellent break and inside pass) had been successful D's would have edged into a one point lead. As it was Warlingham scored themselves after a series of close range drives and the resultant six point margin proved a bridge too far for the old boys, who had to settle for the two points salvaged from the wreckage of a dreadful first half hour.
